Clodronic acid or clodronic sodium, or more commonly known as clodronate liposome is the first generation of non nitrogen bisphosphonate. It is a drug and approved scientifically to treat and prevent the cases of osteoporosis. This happened when women already reach the stage of post menopausal time. In experimental science, it is used to decrease macrophages.

These are white blood cells within tissues. Macrophages are produced by the division of the white blood cells formed in the bone marrow and spleen. These kind of white blood cell is known to be as monocytes which ingest foreign particles after it was formed. Basically, macrophage is the core of the system which fight against infectious viruses and diseases.

Liposomes are the microscopic bubbles which are consist of fatty liquids. These are used in cell biology to study the cell and find cures to any diseases found in the cell. They are drugs that are used to help treat and cure cancer. But it does not only limit to cancer, scientists also approved that these drugs can be used in curing other diseases. It is made of liquid and phospholipids.

Medical science discovered clodronate liposome that will function in the suppression of macrophages. It is known to be the fighter against microorganism. Aside from defending the body from the organisms that will infect and impair the system, it can also be the source of the disease.

In natural circumstances, the healthy immune system will cope diseases up like coughs and colds. In the contrary, the damaged system will attack every cells it will eat each particles, both the healthy and damaged. When this doom happens, severe illnesses will take place affecting the body from functioning well.

Immune response does protect the body from invasion of the infectious organisms. But damages will also happen in the body when the transplant was rejected leading to the autoimmune condition. It will soon result to transplant rejection.

After it was transported, macrophage will detect that it is alien. In result, it will engulf it through the thing so called phagocytosis.

This discovery marked a significance in the history of medicine industry. Not only that the cancers will be treated, other diseases will be as well.
