The feet is a very important part of the human anatomy. It is the part that allows one to walk, run, skip, hop, jump, and other actions. Most activities of daily living require a person to walk around, which is why the feet are easily one of the parts that people simply cannot afford to lose.

Sometimes, the feet suffer from so many problems, as they are one of the most used parts of the human body. They are prone to fungal infections, sprains, bunions, swelling, and other foot dilemmas. These can be cured by application of treatment creams, by surgery, or they can be corrected by shoe orthotics.

The field of orthotics is a special branch of medicine. This is focused primarily in the production of orthosis. These are corrective external devices that are applied to the extremities to correct misalignment and cure most foot ailments. They are a product of intensive research and a dedicated team of experts. These devices are often made to make every step a comfortable experience.

An orthosis is used for several reasons. For one, it is used to control, guide, and limit a particular extremity for significant reasons. It can also be used to restrict movements in areas where the doctor deem for it to be necessary. Continued use of orthosis generally assists in movements of the foot.

It also serves to reduce the pressure that is supplied by weight bearing forces to any parts of the foot. If these weight are not lifted off, performance of this certain body part may be affected. It is also used for rehabilitation purposes, especially when the said part is removed from a cast. This provides the assistance needed by the foot to get back to normal. It also serves a corrective purpose that aims to resignal a part to the desired normal shape and position.

Orthotics are used for certain problems. They either solve the problem, or just make it more bearable so that it will not hinder in the normal function of the entire system. One of the foot problems that is effectively corrected with the use of such device is the condition known as Achilles tendonitis. It is signified by the swelling of the Achilles tendon, and it is a dilemma shared by most runners and athletes all over the world. The use of the orthosis is scientifically proven to stop the progression of the said condition so that the affected part has enough time to heal.

Metatarsalgia is a painful condition that is often suffered by athletes who do a whole lot of running at a daily basis. It is also caused by wearing shoes which do not fit correctly. This is generally not at all serious and can even be remedied by applying ice and resting the ailing part. However, if the case gets serious, orthotics should be placed as some sort of shock absorber for the foot.

A foot without any arch is also known as a flat foot. Normally, this does not cause any pain, as it is only due to some loose connections in some of the joints near the said foot. It can affect only one organ, but most cases feature two. The orthotics do not really cure the said condition, but it can help with the pain.

There are still other conditions that are either corrected or cured by the use of this special shoe insert. They include corns in the feet, unsightly bunions, sprains, arch problems, and a whole lot more. They can also be custom made or just bought off the shelf.
